The former Rangers, West Brom and Scotland man's career is littered with both the incredible - he was a very skilful player - and the controversial and no doubt each one will be revisited at some point on these pages.
But here, Retro Football Blog is looking at the time he glugged on a supporter’s beer before taking a corner when he was playing for Vancouver Whitecaps in 1979.
“I believe it was a Scotsman that asked me if I was thirsty as I was taking the corner,” Johnston recalled to whitecapsfc.com. “And I was, but the beer was really warm.”
It seemed to do the trick as Peter Daniel got on the end of it to score the winner against San Jose Earthquakes. It's about 40 seconds in on the video below.
