At Wembley, Third Division Rangers fought back from 2-0 down to lift the 1967 League Cup at the expense of West Brom, who had a formidable cup reputation at the time.
The Baggies were the League Cup holders, having beaten West Ham a year earlier and were celebrating an FA Cup triumph in 1968, while they reached the League Cup final again in 1970, losing to Man City.
And at half-time in front of the Twin Towers it looked like the fans’ trip back to the Midlands would be a happy one thanks to Clive Clark’s double.
Not so, as goals from Roger Morgan, Rodney Marsh – signed from Fulham for £15,000 in 1966 – and Mark Lazarus helped make the day and season one remember for QPR, as the club were also promoted to the Second Division as champions.
